Darlene J. Hoie, 87, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Shelly, MN, died on Friday, December 21, 2018, in Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN.
Darlene Joy Stordahl was born on January 7, 1931, in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Arthur and Alice (Ostenson) Stordahl. She graduated from Hendrum High School and furthered her education at Moorhead State College and Mayville State College (ND). She then taught school before her marriage.
On June 19, 1950, Darlene married Vernon Hoie and they had four children, Mary Elizabeth, Rhonda Alene, Randall Arthur, and Heidi Marie. Darlene and Vernon established their home on a farm near Shelly where they farmed for many years. Vernon died in 1997 and she continued to live on the farm. After suffering a stroke in 2011, she moved to Rosewood on Broadway and then River Pointe in Moorhead, before moving to the Halstad Living Center in 2016.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shelly where she was active in ALCW Ladies Aide and taught Sunday School.
Darlene enjoyed dancing, shopping, especially garage sales, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years, Darlene and Vernon enjoyed spending time at the lake cabin on Maple Lake near Mentor, MN, and their winters in Mesa, AZ.
Darlene is survived by her daughters, Rhonda (Don) Aanenson, Karlstad, MN, and Heidi (Ethan Olson) Grove, Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Shane (Katy) Aanenson, Shawn (Jenny) Aanenson, Shannon (Jared) Britten, and Brandy (Matt) Wolf; and eight great-grandchildren, Carter, Camden, and Collin Aanenson; Austin, Gage, Caleb, and Aaron Aanenson; Josie Britten, and Baby Girl Wolf, due in February of 2019.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; children, Mary Elizabeth and Randall; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Aanenson.
A Gathering of Friends for Darlene will be one hour prior to her Memorial Service.
Her Memorial Service will be 11:00 AM, Monday, January 7, 2019, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Shelly, MN.
