Coleen M. Berneking

Coleen M. Berneking, 69, Hawley, MN, died Monday, July 20, 2026 in her home in Hawley.

Coleen Marie Kent was born July 5, 1957 to Stanley and Isabel (Hughes) Kent in Morris, MN where she was raised and graduated from high school. After graduation she moved to Reno, NV and worked as a waitress. She later moved to Breckenridge, MN, where she married Daryl Berneking. They made their home in the Breckenridge and Wahpeton, ND, area. Coleen moved to Moorhead, MN, and then to Hawley where she resided at Hawley Senior Living since 2022.

Coleen enjoyed playing Bingo and participating in crafts. She was talented in writing poetry and had several of her poems published.

She is survived by her siblings, Steve (Nancy) Kent, Tim (Julie) Kent, Kevin (Sherri) Kent and Shawn Kietzman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Shannon; and her ex-husband, Daryl.

A graveside service for Coleen will be held in the Fall at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery, Perham, MN.

Remember me, When I'm old.

My heart goes weak, then I'm cold.

And cherished the simple time I've had.

To Look back at it all, where did the time go?

They always did way, to take it slow.

God only knows what lies ahead.

My memories are all in my head.
