Cleo Almira Williams, 102, Moorhead, MN, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, in Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND. Prior to her hospital admission, she had been receiving services from Hospice of the Red River Valley so she could remain at home with her husband.
Cleo was born June 10, 1917, in Billings County, ND, to Thomas and Emma (Markwart) Porter. She was raised on a large Hereford cattle farm near Belfield, ND, and learned the value of hard work and integrity. She graduated from Fryburg (ND) High School in 1935. Cleo attended Dakota Business College in Fargo. She lived for a time in Arizona where she worked at the Bisbee Daily Review. Moving to California, she worked at Camp Stoneman in Pittsburg, CA, during World War II. Returning to North Dakota after the war, she worked at Herbst Department Store in Fargo. She later owned an antique shop in Moorhead.
Cleo married Deane Williams on July 15, 1950, in Fargo. Cleo enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, sewing, quilting, painting, FreeCell and crosswords. As an avid reader, she was a lifelong learner. Cleo and Deane traveled the United States and enjoyed trips to Europe, Greece and Cancun. Attending activities of her grandchildren was a joy and she was extremely involved in their lives. She was a frequent hostess of card parties with friends in their neighborhood.
She is survived by her husband, Deane; son, Brian (Margie) Williams, Spokane Valley, WA; daughter, Gyda (Tom) Anderson, Moorhead; four grandsons, Jeff, Seth, Gabe, and Neil; three great-granddaughters, Caitlyn, Averie and Jillian; and eight great-grandsons, Mason, Carter, Ben, Malcolm, Henry, Wesley, Jack and August.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Willard Porter; sisters, Vivienne Kroh, Guida Karlstad, and Nevada Savageau; and granddaughter, Sara (Williams) Jones.
Well-loved for her quick wit and caring nature, she will be missed by her family including nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation for Cleo will be Monday, June 24, 2019, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral will be Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at 11 AM, in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead.
Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
