Clarice Evelyn Amundson

Clarice E. Amundson, 101, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, February 23, 2019, in Linden Tree Circle in Eventide on Eighth.

Clarice Evelyn Tangen was born on July 14, 1917, in Carpenter, IA, to Elling and Caroline (Olson) Tangen. She came to Minnesota in 1920 with her parents and was raised and received her early education in the Hawley, MN area, before graduating from high school in 1935. She earned her teaching certificate from Moorhead State University and taught from 1938 to 1940 in a rural school near Rollag, MN.

In 1939, she married Alfred Amundson and they farmed in the Hawley and Barnesville, MN, areas until they moved to Moorhead in 1961. In Moorhead, Clarice worked in the Fargo Clinic insurance division from 1960 to 1965. In 1968, she earned her degree in elementary education from Moorhead State University and taught in the West Fargo, ND, school district until she retired in 1978. In retirement she kept busy gardening, quilting, reading and enjoying time with family and friends at their lake home on Spirit Lake, at home in Moorhead, and later at Eventide.

Clarice is survived by her children, Alvin (Barbara) Amundson, Marilyn (Zahi) Ismir, Lois (David) Olson, and Rodney Amundson; grandchildren, Lynette (Lon) Flage, Paul (Najla) Amundson, Heidi (James Krzeminski) Amundson, Sarah (Steve) Mateski, Peter (Aki) Ismir, Erik (Jennifer) Olson, Britt Olson, Kirk (Evelyne) Olson, Katie (Randy) Barth and Marit (Frank) Fastner; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Alex (Lily) and Isaac Flage, Zachary, Evan, Zayd and Ethan Amundson, Elliott and Lily Krzeminski, Julie and Alexandra Mateski, Leah and Aira Ismir, Bjorn and Elsa Olson, Cory and Maya Olson, Tyler, Emily, Jessica, Abbie, Olga and Hannah Barth, and Mia and Erick Fastner; and great-great-grandchildren, Lauren and Olivia Flage. Clarice was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Amundson; daughter-in-law, Carol Amundson; infant son, Dennis Amundson; her parents; five brothers; and one sister.

Funeral service for Clarice will be Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at 1 PM, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will be in Gran Lutheran Cemetery, Hawley, at a later date.
