Cheryl L. Kemmer, 72, Dent, MN, passed away peacefully at Heather’s House-HIA Hospice, surrounded by family and friends.

Cheryl was born June 16, 1954, in Hawley, MN, to Elling and Arlene (Neubauer) Tangen. She graduated from Hawley High School in 1972. Cheryl furthered her education at Detroit Lakes Technical College, earning her nursing degree.

Cheryl worked in the pediatric units at St. Luke’s/MeritCare/ Sanford Hospitals and finished her career working for Stellar Health Care, retiring in 2012. Cheryl spent almost 40 years in the nursing profession.

Cheryl met Patrick Kemmer in 1996 at Pat’s vegetable stand during a local market show and it was love at first sight. Cheryl and Pat were united in marriage on March 14, 1998, at Glyndon Lutheran Church. They made their home in Glyndon and together worked side by side growing flower and vegetable gardens for retail and wholesale markets. Cheryl and Pat spent their free time at their trailer at Frazier’s Resort on Crystal Lake. They sold their home in Glyndon and moved to Dent, MN on Jerry Bacon Lake in 2020. Cheryl loved to fish. She didn’t like cleaning the fish but sure enjoyed catching them. They enjoyed many trips to Nevada, Arizona and California. Cheryl’s kind and caring nature fit her profession well. She excelled in nursing, showering her love for all the kids that came through over the years. Always putting others before herself, Pat often joked, “Cheryl, you would hold the door open in Heaven, to allow others to enter before you.”

Cheryl will be remembered and deeply missed by her husband, Pat Kemmer of Dent, MN; two brothers, Doug Tangen and Roger (Becky) Tangen; brothers and sisters-in-law, Leland (Patricia) Kemmer, Jamie (Beth) Kemmer, Deb (Dale) Kemmer and Peggy Horowitz; along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elling and Arlene Tangen; father and mother-in-law, Alton and Lorraine Kemmer; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jill Kemmer, and Dr. Thom Horowitz; and one niece, Amanda Kemmer.
