Charles N. Lillibridge

Charles Newell Lillibridge, the son of Russell and Metha (Raguse) Lillibridge, was born in Wahpeton, ND, on Nov. 26, 1928. He first lived on the family farm near Rothsay, MN, and as a young boy he moved to Wahpeton, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1946.

As a young man, Charles served in the US Army. He later attended West Point Military Academy for two years. After his service, he returned to Wahpeton, where he attended North Dakota State School of Science. He also formed a band, which played for many dances in the area. After finishing at NDSSS, he began working for the Great Northern Railroad.

On August 7, 1960, Charles married Alvina Stone at Bethel Lutheran Church in Wahpeton. They made their home in Fargo, ND, and Charles continued to work for the railroad. He also attended Moorhead State Teacher's College, where he graduated in 1964. Following graduation, Charles quit his railroad job and began teaching third and fourth grades in Dilworth, MN. He retired in 1990.

In 1964, Charles and Alvina also opened Lillibridge's Maple Beach Resort on Loon Lake, near Vergas, MN. They have continued to own and operate the resort and have built a beautiful facility and a loyal customer following. Many great memories were made at the lake. In the winters, Alvina and Charles traveled extensively including Mexico and South America.

Charles died on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, in Essentia Health, Fargo, at the age of 90.

He is survived by his wife, Alvina, Fargo; a brother, Dr. Lee (Marlene) Kochenderfer, of Maple Grove, MN; a nephew, Dr. Robert (Lynette) Kochenderfer; nieces, Susan (Scott) Batholomew and Dr. Nancy (Erick) Olsen; 10 great-nieces and nephews; and two great-great-nieces.

Visitation for Charles will be Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, from 2 PM until 3 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 PM, also in Korsmo Funeral Chapel. Charles will be buried in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
