Betty M. Empting, 87, Dilworth, MN, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021, in Serenity Assisted Living, Dilworth.

Betty Marie LaGrow was born on June 6, 1933, in Felton, MN, to Wilfred and Hilda (Sanders) LaGrow. Her family moved from Felton to Moorhead, where she graduated from Moorhead High School in 1951.

On March 31, 1979, Betty was united in marriage to James Empting and they made their home in Dilworth. Betty worked as an account clerk for 20 years at the Moorhead State University bookstore. She enjoyed the students she met over the years and kept in touch with several of them, often receiving holiday cards and phone calls. Betty retired from MSUM on June 14, 1991.

Betty continued to stay busy by doing volunteer work in her community. She served as vice president for several years for Degree of Honor. She was extremely active at Dilworth Lutheran Church, serving as Chairwoman of Rebecca Circle and the funeral committee. She loved participating in these groups as it brought her close to her friends, who she enjoyed so much. You would often see Betty working the front desk at Dilworth Lutheran, always greeting you with a warm smile. When Betty was not volunteering, she enjoyed dancing, traveling with Jim, birthday and anniversary celebrations, and spending time at the lake with family and friends. She would often make her "famous" apple bread and share with everyone.

Betty will be remembered and missed by her nieces and nephew, Jan (Bruce) Harmon, Barbara (John) Marsh, Shelley Ford, Judy (Gene) Lewis, Sherry (John) Teague and Denny (Paulie) LaGrow; step-children, Larry Empting, Steven Empting and Susan Weisenborn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jim (2019); two sisters, Doris Ford and Muriel Motschenbacher; one brother, Russell LaGrow; brothers-in-law, William Ford and Herb Motschenbacher; sister-in-law, Lu LaGrow; and three nephews, Robert Ford, Bradley Ford and Larry Campbell.

Betty's family extends their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Serenity Assisted Living and Ethos Hospice for the wonderful and loving care they gave to Betty.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2021, from 5pm-7pm in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A Prayer Service and time of sharing will start at 7pm. Betty's Funeral Service will be Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 10am in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.

Due to Covid-19, seating capacity is limited at the church on Wednesday.
