Betty Louise Lundon, 84, passed away peacefully at Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, after a courageous 10-month battle with cancer.
Betty was born on June 13, 1942, to Leroy Schroeder and Harleth Mielke. She was the only daughter among five brothers, a role that helped shape her strength, independence, and caring spirit.
Betty married Richard Lundon in 1957, and together they made their home in Dilworth, where they raised four daughters and one son. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she devoted herself to creating a home filled with love, laughter, and traditions that will be cherished for generations.
Betty will be remembered for her wonderful baking and home-cooked meals, tending to her flower garden, and organizing summertime fish fries that included the well-known water fights that brought smiles to everyone involved. She especially loved decorating her home for every holiday, making each season feel festive and welcoming for her family and friends. She loved polka dancing barefoot with anyone she could persuade onto the dance floor, playing cards and spending countless hours looking through printed family photographs, reliving treasured memories. She enjoyed visiting with friends in her screen house and was known for her determined spirit, even insisting on shoveling her own driveway in the middle of the night despite her children’s repeated requests not to.
Above all, Betty’s kindness, resilience, and love for her family will be deeply missed.
Betty is survived by her children, Diana (Lydell) Branden, Bill (Ilene) Lundon, Colleen (Jerry) Ostgarden, Patty (Neil) Munro, and Pam (Rick) Sweeney; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Betty’s Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday July 21, 2026, at 2 PM, with a gathering of family and friends from 1 PM to 4 PM, in American Legion Post 21, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be in Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
Floral arrangements received will be donated to Hope Blooms so they can continue sharing the comfort and joy that flowers bring to others.
