Bernice Envik, 88, of Moorhead, MN, peacefully entered her eternal home on Friday, March 27, 2026. She passed away surrounded by the love and devotion of her family, stepping from their arms, into the arms of her Savior.
Born on May 15, 1937, in Linton, ND, to Kathryn and Anton Fischer, Bernice lived a life that was a true testament to her faith. To know Bernice was to know the heart of a saint; she was a woman of deep grace who lived entirely for others, placing their needs above her own. She was the heart of our home and a constant source of strength, she taught us that love is the greatest gift we can give, and through Christ, family isn’t just for a lifetime—it is eternal.
After graduating from Driscoll High School, Bernice received her teaching certificate from Dickinson State in 1958. She did her student teaching in Wing, ND, and then taught middle school in Watford City and Driscoll, ND. Whether she was leading a classroom, coaching basketball, or teaching baton twirling, she led with a gentle, patient spirit.
Bernice met the love of her life, Homer Envik, at a local roller rink and on July 10, 1959, they were united in marriage in Menoken, ND. This was the beginning of a beautiful 66-year journey of devotion. They initially made their home in Sterling, ND, before moving to Fargo and eventually Moorhead, MN.
Her family was her "whole being." While raising five children, she built a foundation of traditions that will be cherished for generations. She was the soul of every gathering, organizing Christmas Bingo, “Minute to Win It” games, family trivia and reunions at Leaf Lake. She found joy in the simple blessings of life: solving puzzles on Wheel of Fortune with Homer, mastering the Jumble, and being the best hula hooper around.
Bernice moved through life with a “servant’s heart.” As a waitress at the Holiday Inn for 37 years, she was so cherished that customers would frequently wait for a seat in her section. At home, her door was always open, and no one left hungry. The family will forever treasure memories of the kettle of popcorn always ready on the stove, her famous Nut Goodie bars, potato salad and her signature holiday pistachio dessert. Her true gift, however, was her God-given ability to make every soul feel welcome and loved.
Soft-spoken and kind, Bernice never had a harsh word for anyone. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, grace, and an abiding love that will never be forgotten. She was truly an angel on earth, and though we miss her, we find peace knowing she is at rest in her heavenly home.
Bernice is survived by her loving husband, Homer Envik; five children: Jerry (Dawn) Envik, Vernon (Wendy) Envik, Karen (Mitch) Byrne, Karla (Lloyd) VanRaden, and Rhonda (Robert) Porter; her ten cherished grandchildren: Nicole England, Kari Envik, Lynae (Keaton) Wolf, Bryan Envik, Kayla (Michael) Holtan, Mitchell (Brandi) Byrne, Tyler VanRaden, Brandon (Amy) Porter, Marissa (Tate) Bollingberg, and Dalton (Sasara) Byrne; her great-nephew, Ricky Envik; and seventeen great-grandchildren; her sister, Ethelyn (Vic) Uttke, brothers, Garland (Debbie) Fischer, Paul (Sharlene) Fischer and Sister-in-laws Darlene, Marge, Evelyn and Dee Fischer, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Kathryn and Anton; brothers, Charles, James, Robert, Arlo, and Wallace Fischer; her mother and father-in-law Frito and Dorthy Envik, her brother-in-law; Richard Envik; sister-in-law, Shirley Ann Envik; and an uncle, Marion Envik.
