Bernd Scholz, 61, of Fargo, ND, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Sanford Medical Center, West Campus, as a result of injuries sustained in vehicle-pedestrian accident in Fargo.

Bernd was born in Krefeld Germany, the son of Rudolf and Edda Scholz. Growing up Bernd loved to be outdoors camping and hiking. His love for travel lasted his entire life. He loved to explore and experience new places for the food, the people, and especially to see God’s amazing creation in person. He traveled to over 30 countries, his favorite being New Zealand. The place he traveled the most frequently was Malaysia, over 30 times! He loved it for the food, the beaches, and the beauty.

Bernd was a mechanical engineer by trade and training. He received his master’s degree in engineering from South Dakota State University. His professional life took him from being a toolmaker in Germany to setting up a German manufacturing plant in Rhode Island, to working in Hutchinson, MN as a process engineer, and ending up at NDSU as a nanoscience engineer. Bernd loved to figure out how something worked and then improve it.

Bernd met his wife Anuchida in Thailand. They married in 2005 in Winnipeg, CA. Anuchida joined Bernd in Fargo where they were both part of welcoming many international students to NDSU. He gave generously of his time & resources to make their lives better while studying here. It was his gratitude to God & the love of God in him that moved him to give sacrificially to whomever he saw needed help.

He is survived by his wife Anuchida, his mother Edda Scholz (Germany), his sisters Regina (Tobias) Masuch (Germany), Beate Scholz (Germany), and Andrea Sachapour, (Germany), two nieces and one nephew (Germany).

He was preceded in death by his father, Rudolf Scholz (Germany).

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Wycliffe Bible Translators or to Calvary Chapel, Fargo, ND.

A Visitation for Bernd will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 6:30 PM, Prayer Service at the Calvary Chapel, Fargo. Visitation will continue Saturday, March 22, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the Calvary Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
