BenVern "Ben" Klug
February 6, 1931 — October 15, 2003
BenVern Eugene Klug was born February 6, 1931, to Ewald and Dorothea (Kuehl) Klug, in Barnesville, MN. Ben was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin, MN. He graduated from Barnesville High School and from Interstate Business College, Fargo, ND, and was employed with Super Valu Stores, Inc. for thirty-four years. Ben held several different positions during his career with Super Valu and retired as a buyer. Ben married Marjorie Zurkan, September 12, 1959, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. He and Marjorie retired the same day and spent the next thirteen winters in Mesa, AZ.
Ben was an avid sports fan and played on the Super Valu softball and bowling teams. He also decided it was much more fun to spend the winters in Fargo watching the local sports teams that it was to go to Arizona. So the last five winters were spent at local high school and college games; with Ben's favorite being the NDSU Bison. Ben had ten older brothers and sisters and truly loved spending time with them as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Ben belonged to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served on a number of boards and committees. He was also a member of Roughriders Kiwanis Club, the Red River Valley Carving Club and the Senior Golf Tour. Ben died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, at seventy-two years of age.
Ben is lovingly survived by his wife, Marjorie; two brothers, Jennings (Olivia), Minot, ND, and Elton (Lois), Chanhassen, MN; three sisters, Irene Cook, Moorhead, Ruth Thunberg, Alexandria, MN, and Delda Ash, Boise, ID; two sisters-in-law, Delores Klug, Moorhead and Alma Klug, Fargo; a brother-in-law, Bob Patzmann, Minneapolis, MN; his much-loved thirty-nine nieces and nephews and their spouses; his wife's family, Russell, Alma and Molly Zurkan; his true and loyal friends in the "Nickel Club"; and his longtime friend, Bob Brown.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Florence Patzmann and Leona Overby; and brothers, Hubert, Clarence and Waldo Klug.
Visitation for Ben will be Sunday, October 19, 2003, from 6 - 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His funeral will be Monday, October 20, 2003, at 2 PM, in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Burial will be in
