Benjamin S. Iwen

Benjamin S. Iwen, 44, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Sanford Medical Center, Fargo.

Benjamin Scott Iwen was born on September 3, 1980, to Jeffrey Iwen and Stephanie Snyder, at Elmendorf Air Force Base, AK. Ben moved with his Army family from Alaska to Fargo, to Vancouver, WA, to Fort Richardson, AK, and Fort McCoy, WI, before returning to the Fargo/Moorhead area. He attended Moorhead High School but later got his GED. He worked in various jobs in the tech field before finally working for Microsoft.

If one were to sum up Ben’s interests, it would have to be gaming. Ben had a passion for games of any kind. Whether it was board games, tabletop games, video games, he enjoyed playing them all and the time he spent with friends and family while playing them. As part of his hobby, he collected many retro and modern video games. One of the highlights of his year was attending CoreCon where he spent the weekend gaming and renewing friendships of those he hadn’t seen over the year. He also ran the E-gaming room at CoreCon for several years.

Ben enjoyed 80s and 90s music and movies and reading books. He was an “adventurous” diner and wanted to try any new restaurant he found. Ben also had a soft spot for animals. He had a cat named Gatsby and regularly donated to Jazzy and Mumbo’s who help support people with pets in need.

Ben is survived by his father Jeffrey (Deanna) Iwen; mother Stephanie Snyder; sister Kirsten (Gene) Schleeter; grandmothers Carol McClellan and LaMae Iwen; uncles Todd Iwen, Jim Snyder, Dave (Nancy) Snyder, Terry Snyder, and Steven Snyder; aunts Dianne (Henry) Nowak and Brenda Nelson; cousins James Snyder, Kenneth (Shannon) Nowak, Gregory (Sherry) Nowak, Craig (Holly) Nowak, Elizabeth Muchow, Carrie (Michael) Knutson, and Rachel Nelson-Thoenes.

Ben was preceded in death by grandfathers Jim Snyder, Gene Iwen, and Ronny McClellan; uncles Joe Snyder, Jeff Snyder, Darrel Snyder, and Scott Jacobs; and aunts Becky Wolfe and Lisa Jacobs.
