Arthur H. Leistikow, of Marion ND, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Edgewood Vista in Fargo, ND, at the age of 107. Services to celebrate his long life will be held in the spring at Grace United Methodist Church, Marion, with Pastor Mark Britton officiating. Burial will be at Emmanuel Cemetery, rural Marion.
Art was born to Herman and Hulda (Bruschwein) Leistikow on December 11, 1915, in Marion. He grew up helping in the family-owned Pioneer Meat Market & Grocery. He also enjoyed working with growing crops on the family farmland west of Marion.
In 1940, Art was joined in marriage to Dorothy Korn. They purchased a farm home west of Marion and farmed the land together for 65 years. They were members of Grace United Methodist Church, with both of them serving their church on committees or teaching. Art’s additional jobs included working for the US Postal Service as a substitute and later full-time rural route mail carrier. He also drove a few years as a school bus driver.
He loved the farm life. He raised a variety of animals. He enjoyed planting and tending to large gardens and field crops and enjoyed family gatherings. In his spare time, he crafted woodworking projects, making several gifts for family members.
Art was adored by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was nicknamed Boo Papa by them.
Arthur is survived by his sons, Keith (Karen) and Daryl (Barbara); daughter, Sheri; five grandchildren, Kristi (Brian) Dentinger, Kory (Nichole) Leistikow, Ashley (Jim) Arneson, Megan (Cory) Dally, and Eric (Kristin) Jaeger; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-five years, Dorothy; parents; six sisters; and granddaughter, Kaylene Jaeger.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers gifts to be donated to Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1701 38th Street South, Suite 101, Fargo, ND, 58103. or the Marion United Methodist Church in remembrance of Arthur's long life and the kindness he always had for others.
