Arthur Brown

March 21, 1922 — May 2, 2004

Arthur Robert Brown was born March 21, 1922, in Wenatchee, WA, to Arthur Rudolph Brown and Elsie (Mead) Brown. In school, he ran track and was involved in caddying for his father.
He joined the Army shortly after Pearl Harbor and missed graduating from high school by five months. He was wounded while serving with the 90th Infantry in Czechoslovakia. He met Lucille Augusta Zentgraf at Baxter General Hospital in Spokane, WA, where she was a ward administration clerk. They married three weeks later on August 20, 1945, in the hospital chapel.

Art worked for one and a half years in Seattle, WA, at a general store and then moved the family back to Moorhead, MN, where he worked for the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1971. He established and operated Brown's Lapidary and Jewelry Store in the basement of their home. He also made and sold crafts and woodworking items in Minnesota, North Dakota, and Arizona, where they wintered for about fifteen years.
Traveling, camping, fishing, boating, and square dancing were things they enjoyed. They were charter members of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club in Moorhead. Art, Lucille, and family were members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Art was also a member of the Postal Union, the Moorhead American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW of Moorhead.
Art died on May 2, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, MN, at the age of eighty-two.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille, Oak Park Place, Albert Lea; four children, Linda (Wayne) Applegate, Albert Lea, Larry (JoAnn) Brown, Lakeville, MN, Bonnie (Lynn) Grieger, Willmar, MN, and Ken (Lynn) Brown, Moorhead; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Schneider, Ryan Applegate, Daniel (Esther) Applegate, Stacy Brown, Eric Brown, Christopher Grieger, Troy Grieger, Shawn (Sarah) Brown, and Shelly Brown; and two great-grandchildren, Zachery and Maddie Schneider.
