Alfred Young

Alfred Louis Young was born July 24, 1919, in Waubun, MN, where he grew up and attended school. Alfred joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and in April of 1941, he entered the Army, serving in WWII. Upon his discharge, he attended welding school and then returned to the Waubun area. On August 27, 1949, he married Donna Quiggle in Moorhead where they made their home. Alfred worked twenty-seven years for the Moorhead Public Service Department as a truck driver and groundman, retiring in 1981.



Alfred loved hunting and fishing. He would often tell long stories of his adventures. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and carpentry. Alfred died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, at the age of 84.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Donna, Moorhead; two daughters, Marjorie Young, Moorhead, and Kathleen (William) Steinmann, Wyoming, MN; three sons, Ted (Terri) Young, Buffalo, MN, Tom (Roxanne) Young, Moorhead, and James (Robin) Young, Hutchinson, MN; four sisters, Marie Fazendin, Stillwater, MN, Hildegarde Wilcox, Henderson, NV, Margaret Carlson, Stillwater, Bertha Eidenschink, Detroit Lakes, MN; one brother, Andrew (Charmaine) Young, Britton, SD; four granddaughters, and four grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Joseph and Jerome, and two sisters, Julia and Theresa.

Visitation: Friday, 4:30 - 6:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM
