Kathryn "Kay" Hastings

Kathryn 'Kay' Hastings, 90, Fargo, ND, died Sunday, December 29, in Eventide, Fargo.
Kathryn A. Hastings was born January 21, 1929, in Fargo, ND, to John and Oline "Lee" (Johnson) Olson. Kay, as she was known, was raised in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School.
Kay enrolled as a home economics student at North Dakota State University, Fargo. She loved her high school art classes and enjoyed her studies in home economics.

Kay was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Hastings on August 28, 1948, at First Presbyterian Church, Fargo. Following their marriage, Bob and Kay lived in Fargo, and later moved to a farm near Felton, MN, where they farmed until retiring in 1984. They lived on the farm until returning to Fargo in 1993.

Both Kay and Bob enjoyed community and church activities where they worshipped in Felton. They also loved weekends and family reunions at their cabin near Detroit Lakes, MN. They enjoyed many fishing trips on Leech Lake in Minnesota as well as in Canada with family and friends.

They enjoyed wintering in Arizona. Kay was known for her homemade peanut brittle. She enjoyed playing cards with her sisters. Kay also loved playing crazy rummy with her family. Kay and Bob loved dancing together. She enjoyed sewing in her spare time. She had a flair for decorating her home for various seasons and holidays. Kay was known for her warm smile and her giggling laughter.

Bob died July 9, 2016. Kay died peacefully Sunday, December 29, 2019, in Eventide Fargo, at ninety years of age.

She is survived by her children, James (Mary) Hastings, Felton, Bradley (Connie) Hastings, Ottertail, MN, and Beth Lee (Steve) Waskosky, Deer Creek, MN; grandchildren, Joseph (Bridget) Hastings, John (Kyla) Hastings, and Philip Hastings, Chris (Jessie) Barker, and Paul Barker; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donald (Marlene) Hastings, Bismarck, ND; and numerous extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Kay was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings.

Kay's family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Eventide, Fargo, as well as Ethos Hospice.

Visitation for Kay will begin at 1 PM, with a memorial service at 3 PM, Friday, January 3, 2020, in Eventide Fargo Centrum, Fargo. Burial will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
