Judy A. Strong, 69, Moorhead, MN, died Friday, April 15, 2011, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Judith Ann Strong was born on June 19, 1941, to Philip and Hilda Strong in Cooperstown, New York. She grew up in Van Hornesville, New York and graduated from high school there as valedictorian. She was involved with 4-H for 11 years, the most they offer. Following her graduation, she attended SUNY in Albany, NY and graduated in 1963. In 1965, she went to Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts, majoring in chemistry. She completed her PhD in physical chemistry 1969. That year, she accepted a position at Moorhead State College in the Chemistry Department.

While at MSUM, Judy was involved with the Minnesota and MSU Science Fairs. In 1985 she was appointed Dean of Natural and Social Sciences. After 10 years, she was appointed Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs. She retired in 2008 after 38 years only to experience her journey with endometrial cancer.

While in Moorhead, Judy joined Soroptimist International in 1987. She served as president of the Moorhead club 1994-1996 and as Region Governor 1999-2001. During 2008-2010 Judy served on the Board of Directors of Soroptimist International of the Americas. One of the joys she had was traveling to Soroptimist meetings and conferences, beginning in Beijing, China. Her trips included Osaka, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Honolulu, HI; Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Taipei, Taiwan; Hong Kong; Glasgow, Scotland; New York, NY; Anaheim and San Francisco, CA.

Judy also served as a board member and president of the local Lake Agassiz Campfire Council. She was an avid supporter and was instrumental in implementing Campfire's computer programs.

In the lighter times of her life, she enjoyed bowling and won the ND Singles Division II in 1992 with a score of 654. Her cats were always a special part of her life. And for 10 years her mother lived with her in Moorhead.

Judy is survived by her cousins, Philip (Diana) Hulbert, East Meredith, NY, Diana Hulbert, Seattle, WA, Donna Skelly, Larry Hulbert, Brenda Schreijack and Sally Fillion all of Greenwich NY; her friends and colleagues at MSUM; all of her Soroptimist friends, and her dear neighbors, Erling and Evonne Anderson.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents; grandmother, Edith Hulbert; aunt, Clara Hulbert; and uncle Bruce Hulbert.
