Joan Kohlmeyer

Joan Ellen Kohlmeyer, age 66, of Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 4, 2021, in Fargo, ND.

Joan Broderick was born April 6, 1954, in Moorhead, MN, to Eugene and Ruth (Evans) Broderick. She was raised in Moorhead and was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She married her high school sweetheart, Charles Kohlmeyer, November 26, 1971. After a few moves including Fargo, ND, and Cambridge, MN, they settled in rural Pelican Rapids with the family dogs and horses.

After graduating from Moorhead (MN) State University, Joan spent her working career as a court appointed Guardian ad Litem and child custody evaluator where she advocated tirelessly on behalf of children in MN and ND family law courts.

Joan loved traveling to Ireland and spending time at her lake cabin in Park Rapids, MN.

Joan is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Charles; her beloved German Shepherd, Lily; her children, Jason (Logan), Joanna (Brad), Andrew (Maija); her grandchildren, Rebecca (Ben), Rachel, and Thomas; sisters, Betty and Marni; and brothers, Richard and James.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Robert.

Visitation will begin at 9 AM, followed by a funeral at 10 AM, Friday, March 12, 2021, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Burial will take place that day at 2:30 PM, in Graceville (MN) Consolidated Cemetery. Current CDC guidelines regarding masks and distancing will be in effect for both services.
