Helen Sauvageau

Helen Sauvageau, 94, left this world to her Heavenly Kingdom, Saturday, February 11, 2017, surrounded by her loving family in her home in north Moorhead, MN.

Helen Pauline Thue was born January 25, 1923, the daughter of Albert and Inga (Braaten) Thue, on the family farm in rural Walcott, ND. She was raised there and attended school through the eighth grade. She was then was charged with helping on the farm. Helen left the farm in her early 20s and moved to Fargo, ND, where she worked for Flamers Café. She worked there with her three sisters who had already moved to Fargo, as a waitress and was in charge of the till.

Helen was united in marriage to Ourel E. Sauvageau on May 3, 1945, in Ardmore, OK. When Ourel was discharged from the service the moved Horace, ND, later living in Fargo and Dilworth, MN, before settling in Moorhead.

Helen's greatest job was raising her family. She was never far from a camera where she captured her life's works. When her children were school bound she began working at St. Ansgar Hospital where she logged twenty years as a housekeeper and nurse's aid. Ourel died April 12, 1996, and she has continued to make her home in Moorhead.

Helen maintained a close affiliation with her family and was always out front helping siblings and parents as the need arose.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris (Arlo) Gravseth, Morrison, CO; sons, Jim (Laurel) Sauvageau, Dilworth, Ron (Joanne) Sauvageau, Moorhead, and Ivan (Loretta) Sauvageau, Fargo; grandchildren, Ian (Ericka), Helene (Brian), Lara, Josh, Lacey (Adam), Matt (Kathy), Mandy, Zac (Jessica), and Gabe; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Irene (Herb) Dahlstad, Moorhead; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ourel; six sisters and two brothers.

The family of Helen would like to thank the Eventide Family and Hospice of the Red River Valley as both made her last few days pleasant.

A visitation for Helen will be Wednesday from 5 PM to 7 PM, with a 7 PM, Prayer Service in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Her Funeral Mass will be Thursday, February 16, 2017, at 11 AM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
