Gunnel Ulla-Britt Ericsson was born on June 18, 1941, in Karlstad, Sweden to Eric Gunnar and Bertha (Sellvin) Ericsson. She lived in Sweden until she was five years old, and then grew up and attended school in West Orange, New Jersey. Gunnie graduated from West Orange High School in 1959 and then attended Mountainside Nursing School. While completing nursing school, she met her future husband, David Todd. The two were married June 20, 1964, at Pleasantdale Baptist Church in West Orange. Gunnie and Dave lived in Rochester, MN, where two sons were born, David and Daniel. The family was stationed in Germany for three years while Dave served in the Army before finally settling in Fargo, ND, where another son and daughter were born, Steven and Rebecca. Gunnie and Dave were known for their love for the Lord, and their generosity of giving and serving. Gunnie was especially blessed with a passion and talent for music, especially the piano, for which she used the entirety of her life for the glory of God. Gunnie lost her husband, David in 1991. She spent endless time with each of them, traveling, visiting, and ensuring they knew not only her love, but of God’s love for them. Gunnie also had a special bond with her extended family in Sweden, her heritage was very important to her. She made several trips back to visit and hosted family who visited the United States. She continued to speak fluent Swedish throughout her life and loved to take part in Scandinavian events in the community. On November 29, 2014, Gunnie began a new and wonderful chapter and married Lyle Erickson. They have been a blessing to one another, caring for each other through many health struggles and continuously trusting in God and relying on His strength and promises.
