Ernest "Ernie" Grafsgaard

Ernie Grafsgaard, 90, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, November 7, 2015, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead.

Ernest A. Grafsgaard was born June 26, 1925 in McHenry, ND, to Henry and Bertha (Odland) Grafsgaard. He attended school in Eddy County, and at the age of 20, enlisted in the US Army and served in the Pacific. Ernie graduated from Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, MN, in 1952, from the automotive electric program.

On June 20, 1953, Ernie married Birdine Benedict, in Black River Falls, WI. They lived in Moorhead and had three sons, Steve, Stan, and Dave. Ernie worked at United Electric Service, Fargo, ND, from 1953 until he retired in 1990. He was a charter member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, and was active in "Helping Hands." He enjoyed growing roses and woodcarving. He was a member of the Sons of Norway.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Birdine, Moorhead; sons, Steve (Joanne) of Denver, CO, and Stan (Gayle), of Moorhead; daughter-in-law, Mari, Chokio, MN; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Jeremiah, Julia, Rebekah, Micah, Brianna, Jordan and Justin; three great-granddaughters, Charlie, Josie and Brookelynn; sisters, Gladys (Duwayne) Hoyt, McHenry, and Alice (Sherman) Stromsodt, Finley, ND; a brother, Burton (Jean) Grafsgaard, International Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, David; two brothers, Stanley and Harris; and his parents.

Visitation: Thursday, 5 PM until 7 PM, with prayer service at 6:30 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral service: Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, 11 AM, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.

Burial: Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
