Dorothy C. Skalicky

Dorothy C. Skalicky, 72, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, December 31, 2016, in Lilac Homes, Moorhead, surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Dorothy Carol Dronen, daughter of Arthur and Norma (Fuglem) Dronen, was born in Sharon, ND, on January 22, 1944. She grew up and received her education in Sharon, where she graduated from high school. Dorothy attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, to become a licensed practical nurse. While at NDSSS, she met her husband to be, Gerald Skalicky.

Dorothy and Gerald were united in marriage in Devils Lake, ND, on March 6, 1964. They lived in Devils Lake, where Dorothy worked in the local hospital. In 1967, they moved to Moorhead and Dorothy worked for a short time in St. Ansgar Hospital.

Dorothy was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Family was central to her life, and her care for them was her mission. She loved to attend rummage sales, especially to shop for clothing for children and grandchildren. She loved to watch sports, and kept a close eye on NDSU women's basketball. She enjoyed dancing and really enjoyed talking on the phone with family and friends.

In 2009, health issues forced her to become a resident of Ecumen Evergreens in Moorhead. The last three years of her life were spent in Lilac Homes, Moorhead.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Gerald, Moorhead; three sons, Warren (Karen), Fargo, ND, Curtis (Tammy), Brockett, ND, and Nicholas Skalicky, Fargo; sisters, Annette (Dean) Tronson, Buxton, ND and Narleen (Bill) Engel, Sheridan, WY; a brother, Norman Dronen, Buxton; four grandchildren, Jesse, Kaitlyn, Emily Joe, and Joseph Skalicky; and three stepgrandchildren, Emma, Margee, and Jake Corbet. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Gene and Sherman Dronen

Visitation for Dorothy Skalicky will be Wednesday, 4 PM to 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Her funeral service will be Thursday, January 5, 2017, at 2 PM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead. She will be buried with her family in Sharon, ND.
