Beryl Hektner

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Beryl Hektner, 88, Moorhead, MN, who passed into the arms of her Lord, February 18, 2019, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. At her side through much of her final journey were her two daughters, Randee Frommer and Gail Fellers, along with many of her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beryl spent her entire married life of 66 years, in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Beryl Jeanette Goodspeed Hektner, was born in Aberdeen, SD, January 15, 1931, to Leroy and Alice Goodspeed, the 4th of 6 children. Beryl was the last surviving of her siblings. She completed all her schooling in Mina and Aberdeen, SD. She turned down a scholarship for Home Economics and chose to marry the love of her life, whom she met at a roller rink. Beryl did not go to school but applied her skills throughout her life raising her family and giving to others in numerous ways. She was a co-owner in a yarn business for several years called, The Cedar Chest.

Shortly after marriage, November 13, 1948, Ralph and Beryl, moved to Fargo, and eventually moved to Moorhead, where she spent the remaining years of her life. She was blessed with four children.

Beryl is survived by daughters, Randee (DW) Frommer, Redmond, OR, Gail (Bill) Fellers, Laguna Hills, CA; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy (Doug) Goodspeed; brother-in-law, Darold (Phyllis) Petersen; and daughter-in-law, Kathy (Neil) Hektner. Beryl was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Alice Goodspeed, her five siblings, Leotia Guthmiller, Darrell Goodspeed, Phyllis Petersen, and her twin brothers, Doug and Don Goodspeed; and two of her children, Dawn Jonas, and her youngest child, Neil Hektner.

Beryl was a model to her family of strength, creativity, sharing with others of all her gifts of cooking, sewing, gardening, knitting, reupholstering and her involvement in her places she worshiped. She was not afraid to jump in and learn something new, even the computers. Beryl lived her convictions and her legacy lives on through her family, friends and the mark she made in their lives.
