Arlo Claire Douglas, 87, Dilworth, MN, died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.
Arlo was born December 19, 1929, to John and Minnie (Blilie) Douglas, in Moorhead, MN, where he attended school. He married Delores "Penny" Dahl on December 9, 1950, in Moorhead.
He was called to serve his country in 1951. He served in the US Army and fought in the Korean War. Upon his return from the service, they made their home in Dilworth.
Arlo began his employment at Cass-Clay Creamery Fargo, in 1947. Arlo also had A&B Carpet Service. He retired from the carpet business in 1980, and Cass-Clay in 1990. After retirement, they spent many winters in Arizona. In 1959, he began his love for Lake Ida. He built the family lake cabin, and for fifty-eight years, many memories were made. He loved fishing with his children and grandchildren. For over thirty-five years, Arlo and Penny enjoyed playing whist with the same five couples in their card club. Arlo had a love for family. It was something he took great pride in. His sense of humor was known and loved by all who knew him.
Arlo was also a member of Dilworth Lutheran Church, VFW, and American Legion.
Arlo is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Delores "Penny", Dilworth; sons, Michael (Kathryn) Pelican Rapids, MN, David (Monica) Moorhead, and Paul (Kristy) Dilworth; daughters, Debra (Jeff) Dawson, Dilworth, and Sheila Burns, Fargo; nineteen grandchildren: grandsons, John, Destri, Nathan, Justin, Adam, Ryan, Patrick, and Jared Douglas, Jeff Jr. and Matt Dawson, Tom Jarvis and Hung Pham; granddaughters, Karina Custer, Naomi Bragg, Sheena Schmitt, Shelby True, Alicia Douglas, Katie Kringstad, and Richelle Burns; and thirty-one great-grandchildren (with two more on the way!).
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and son-in-law, Rich Burns.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 20, 2017, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church.
His funeral will be Friday, April 21, 2017, at 10:30 AM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church.
Burial will take place in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
