Ardis "Ardie" Engel

Ardis Lorraine Lee was born June 9, 1928, to Lawrence and Alma (Ness) Lee, and was raised on a farm near Hendrum, MN. Ardie spent her early school years at Wide Awake Country School and graduated from Hendrum High School in 1945. She was baptized and later confirmed her faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hendrum, where she was a member for over 50 years. After high school, she attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Fargo, ND, graduating in 1949.
On September 15, 1951, she was united in marriage to Eugene D. Engel of Perley, MN, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She continued her nursing career while her husband served in the Armed Forces in Korea. Upon his return, they farmed in the Hendum/Perley, MN, area. They had three children, Kathryn Lee, Kari Lynn and Douglas Eugene.
A tragic plane crash took the lives of her husband and young son in September of 1975.
In 1978, Ardie moved to the Fargo/Moorhead, MN, area and resumed her nursing career and also worked in retail until her retirement. She joined Trinity Lutheran Church in 1983 and enjoyed volunteering wherever needed. From 2011 to 2017 she was a resident at Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead. In April of 2017, she moved to Edgewood Vista in Fargo, where she passed away peacefully on July 27, 2017, at the age of 89, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kathryn Engel (Robert Aurin), Chicago, IL, and Kari (Wayne) Borgen, Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Houglum, Leslie (Steven) Herrman, and Alexander and Marit Aurin; three great-grandchildren, Finley and Mace Houglum, and Trey Herrman; nephews, Duane Lee, Greg Lee, Harlan Lee, and David Lee; nieces, Barbara Butts and Lenae Harless; and sister-in-law, Hilda Lee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son, parents, and brothers, Leroy, Herman and Irving.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at Eventide Linden Tree, Edgewood Vista Glenn's Place and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their wonderful care.
Visitation will begin at 10 AM, followed by the funeral at 11 AM, Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hendrum.
