Mathias P. "Matt" Cegla, 90, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, January 21, 2017, in Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.
Matt Cegla, the son of John and Catherine (Zimney) Cegla, was born on the family farm south of Windsor, ND, where he was raised and educated. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1946 and served in Quam. He returned to Jamestown, where he worked at the Buick Garage and then Goodman Farms.
On June 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to MaryAnn Kalis in Royalton, MN. They made their home in Jamestown until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1955, where he worked for Lakes Plumbing. In 1962, they moved to Moorhead and he went to work for Sherman's Plumbing until the early 1970s when he began working for Laney's. Matt opened Cegla's Plumbing in 1984 until 1991 when he sold the business to Metro Plumbing. He continued to work part-time until retiring in 1995.
He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
Matt enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, MaryAnn; children, Dennis (Eileen) Cegla, Walworth, NY, Edward (Sandra Jo) Cegla, and Larry (Sandra Kay) Cegla, both Moorhead, Jane (Jerry) Christiansen, Casselton, ND, Michael (Cheryl) Cegla, Moorhead, Ronald (Mary) Cegla, Dilworth, MN, and Diane (Bradley) Blotsky, Fargo; grandchildren, Andrew, Anne, Katelyn, Bradley, Joseph, Timothy, Nicole, Sarah, Laura, Eugenia, Dustin, Cody, Heather, John, and Jack; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Cegla, Minneapolis, MN; and sister, Mary (David) Mulfinger, Jamestown, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gertrude Hefner; and brothers, Vincent, Andrew, Leo and John.
A visitation for Mathias will be Tuesday from 5 PM to 7 PM, with a 7 PM, Prayer Service in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
His Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at 11 AM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
