Marion Kolstad

Marion L. Kolstad, 89, Fargo, ND, died Friday, August 1, 2014, in Bethany on 42nd in Fargo.

Marion Lucille Sande was born to Arnie and Julia (Johnson) Sande, on April 24, 1925, in Bemidji, MN. She attended school there, graduating from Bemidji High School in 1943. Following graduation, she moved to Washington, DC, to work for Nelson A. Rockefeller, Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs.

Marion returned to Bemidji and married Orville Kolstad on September 8, 1946. Their son, Mark, was born in 1947. They moved to Breckenridge, MN, in 1955, so Orville could attend the Wahpeton (ND) State School of Science.

In 1957, they moved to Moorhead, MN. Orville died in 2004, and Marion continued to live in her home in Moorhead until September of 2013, when she became a resident of Bethany on 42nd.

Marion had many hobbies, knitting, crocheting, counted cross-stitch, sewing, and pottery. She taught ceramics and pottery in her home studio for many years to a loyal group of friends. Marion was an avid reader of a wide variety of materials, both fiction and nonfiction. She also volunteered for many years in the beauty shop at Eventide in Moorhead.

Marion is survived by her son, Mark (Susan) Kolstad, Fargo; sisters, Alice Erickson, Apple Valley, MN, Helen (Bernie) O'Grady, Medford, OR, and Eleanore (Gordon) Walters, Bemidji. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnie and Julia; brothers, Albert and Milt Sande; sister, Bertha Olson; and her beloved husband of 58 years, Orville.

The family wishes to thank Marion's good friends, Mary Johnson and Angie Brady, both of Moorhead, for their loving and enduring friendship of nearly 60 years. A special thank you to Karen Racek, also of Moorhead, whose companionship brought so much happiness to Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a charity of choice.

A memorial service for Marion will be held on Monday, August 11, 2014, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
