Margaret Sillers

February 14, 1916 — December 4, 2016

Margaret R. Sillers, 100, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.

Margaret was born in Fargo on February 14, 1916, to Harry and Cynthia (Jones) Baller. She grew up on a farm south of Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College where she received a teaching certificate. Margaret taught elementary schools in Comstock, MN, and later in Menagha, MN. It was in Menagha where she met Douglas Sillers who was teaching high school history. She and Douglas married on August 2, 1941, and then moved to Washburn, ND, for a short time. Margaret moved back to Moorhead when Douglas enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II for three years. After the War, Margaret and Douglas moved to her family farm, south of Moorhead, and they raised sugar beets and small grains, as well as four children. From 1963 to 1981, she lived in St. Paul, MN, a few months a year while Douglas served in the Minnesota State Legislature. In 2007, Margaret and Douglas moved to Fargo where they resided at Touchmark Harwood Grove Retirement Center. Margaret lived at Touchmark until May of 2016, when she became a resident of Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.

Margaret was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Moorhead, since 1929, as well as a member of PEO, Beta Chi Sorority, American Legion and VFW Auxiliary, and Circle 1 Bible study. She was also a supporter of numerous educational, music, art, and other community organizations; a teacher, traveler, reader, baby quilt maker, wonderful pianist and singer, hostess of many coffee and dinner parties, and collector of glass angels and china cups.
Margaret will be especially remembered for her love of Douglas, her children, her grandchildren, other members of her family, and her friends; her ability to tell stories about her past; as well as her gentle spirit, kindness, unselfishness, sensitivity, faith, and thoughtfulness. She was an inspiration and will be missed by many.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, and her mother and father. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Jean (Doug) Bardwell, Huson, MT; Douglas Hal (Leonor) Sillers, Moorhead; Cynthia Sillers (Pat Torgeson), Fargo; and Heather (Marlin) Rudebusch, Shoreview, MN; seven grandchildren, Steven (Julie) Sillers, and their daughter, AJ, Joshua (Sarah) Sillers, and their children, Isabel and Sofia, Andrew (Andrea) Bardwell, and their children, Lincoln and Sterling, Ian (Yve) Bardwell and their son, Samson, Ella (Eric) Flower and their son, Emmett, Elizabeth Rudebusch and Lee Rudebusch; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and hundreds of friends.
