Lyle Sather, 80, of Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, surrounded by his family.
Lyle Sather was born October 22, 1935, the son of Burton and Florence (Aspengren) Sather in Hawley, MN. He was raised in Ulen where he attended school. As a young teenager, Lyle moved to Moorhead and began his dedicated 64 year career with Corwin Automotive Group in Fargo, on July 22, 1952.
Lyle was united in marriage to Shirley Haglund on April 21, 1956, in Twin Valley, MN. They established their home in Moorhead where he continued to work for Corwin's. Lyle worked various positions before semi-retiring in August of 2002. He continued work and was currently the Maintenance Engineer for all Corwin Properties.
His greatest joy in life was his family and most of all his 6 grandchildren. He was especially proud to be a grandpa. He enjoyed maintaining his beautiful lawn, working in the yard, and building things. There was nothing he couldn't fix. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the lakes. Lyle could also make a great soup and bake an excellent caramel apple pie. In his earlier years he loved racing cars at the Glyndon and Fargo Raceways, camping with friends and family, bowling, and was an excellent pool player.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley; children, Kevin (Jolene Rikhus) Sather, Audubon, MN, Jerry (Diane) Sather, Hayden, CO, Tammi (Trevor Sorenson) Sather, Georgetown, MN, and Julee (Paul Wanner) Sather, Moorhead; grandchildren, Kari (Jake) Smith, Dylan and Amber Sather, Chase Sather, Ariah and Kaden Pavola; a great-granchild that will be born in the very near future; and sisters, Bernice Berg, West Fargo, ND, and Carol Pollock, Moorhead.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Severt Benthagen; and brothers, Norman, Orville and Dennis.
A visitation for Lyle will be Thursday from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
His funeral will be Friday, May 6, 2016, at 2 PM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
