Lon "Lonnie" Green
February 14, 1952 — April 17, 2016
Lon "Lonnie" Green, 64, of Moorhead, MN, died April 17, 2016, in his home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, due to complications from lung cancer.
Lonnie was born February 14, 1952, (Valentine's Day), the son of Donald and Virginia (Scharrer) Emmons. He was later adopted by his stepfather, Bud Green, and grew up in Englewood, CO. He later moved to Fargo, ND, and then Galveston, TX, before returning to the Fargo-Moorhead area to be near his daughter and grandchildren.
Throughout his life Lonnie worked in a multitude of professions, including oil rigger, crane operator, welder, taxi driver, and security guard. He loved sailing, studying the Bible and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Lonnie was generous and loving. His keen sense of humor always made him the center of attention at get-togethers, and his wit and "one-liners" continuously kept friends and family entertained. He was able to keep his humor during his final days. Yet Lonnie also possessed a great depth of sensitivity, as he was caring, philosophical, spiritual and always available to comfort others or offer advice when called upon.
Lonnie is survived by his daughters, Sarah (Desmand Hartman) Green, and Kelly Powell; grandchildren, Anthony, Rihanna, Vanna Rae and Desmand, Jr.; sister, Vicky (Mike) Ross; brother, Tim Green; and will also be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, Sam, Joe, Katie, Dazhoni, and Shundiin.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Green; father, Donald Emmons; stepfather, Bud Green.
We will love you always, Lonnie, and will never forget you.
A very special thank you to all his friends and neighbors for their comfort and support during this time. Also, thank you to Katie Ross, Jordan Hellerud, Dazhoni and Shundiin Green for putting together the memorial video of Lonnie's life.
At Lonnie's request his body was donated to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.
A Gathering of Friends for Lon will be Tuesday, April 19, 2016, from 4:30 PM until 6 :00 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
