Lloyd Lien

September 16, 1931 — January 4, 2015

Lloyd L. Lien, 83, of Dilworth, MN, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, in his home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Lloyd Leander Lien was born September 16, 1931, the son of Olender and Minnie (Jacobson) Lien, in rural Flom, MN. He attended Cheerful Nook country school until moving with his family to rural Borup, MN, where he attended school and worked on the family farm helping his father. Lloyd entered the U.S. Army in 1953, and served during the Korean Conflict.

Upon his discharge, he moved to Parkersburg, IA, where he worked as a welder at Clay Equipment Company in Cedar Falls, IA. On April 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Arvilla Meester in Stout, IA. They made their home in Cedar Falls where Lloyd worked for Cedar Falls Public Utilities as a lineman. In October of 1970, they moved to Faith, MN, where they purchased and operated the Faith Flour Mill. Lloyd and Arvilla, then moved to Twin Valley, MN, in 1982, where he worked various jobs until retiring. In the fall of 2007, they moved to Dilworth.

He was a member of Dilworth Lutheran Church and active in the Twin Valley American Legion. Lloyd enjoyed woodworking, attending auctions, antique tractors, playing cards and having coffee with friends. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren.

Lloyd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arvilla; daughter, Linda (Bruce) Hanstad, Alexandria, MN; son, Alan (Kim) Lien, Buffalo, ND; grandchildren, Brittany (Alan Thomas) Hanstad, Bryce (Ann) Hanstad and Branden Lien; great-grandchildren, Portland Ann and Thomas Hanstad; step great-grandchildren, John and Nina Thomas; sisters, Orva Johnson, Portland, OR, Joyce Montplaisir, Fargo, ND, and Carol Benson, Mahnomen, MN; sister-in-law, Kathy Lien, Mahnomen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milo, and infant brother, Ervin; and sisters, Myrtle Larson, Gladys Frerichs, Mavis Flicek, Shirley Kaiser and infant sister, Berniece.

Memorials may be directed to Dilworth Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.

A Visitation for Lloyd will be Wednesday from 5 PM until 7 PM, with a 6 PM Prayer Service in Korsmo Funeral Service, Moorhead, MN.

His Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 8, 2015, at 11:00 AM in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth.

Burial will take place in Memorial Gardens Veterans Cemetery, Twin Valley, in the Spring.
