Leone M. Carter, 95, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Georgetown, MN, died Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in Eventide Fairmont, Moorhead.

Leone Margaret Sophie Peterson was born the daughter of Gustav and Georgine (Fiskum) Peterson, February 12, 1921, in Fargo, ND. She was baptized on March 7, 1921 at the Methodist church in rural Georgetown. She was raised on a farm near Georgetown where she attended country school. During high school she lived with her uncle and family, attending MSTC Campus School, graduating in 1939. She then attended Interstate Business College before working in the office at Cass-Clay Creamery. Leone then enlisted in the Women's Army Corps, serving as a clerk during WWII. During this time she met and married Russell Carter and they were later divorced.

She moved back to the family farm where she cared for her family and helped with farm work. It was during this time she joined Kirkebo Lutheran Church in Perley, MN, where she volunteered in the women's activities, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was the first church secretary. In 1976, she moved to Moorhead and worked at Herbst Department Store in the alterations department. She then went to work at Fargo Laundry for two years before retirement.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead where she volunteered in women's activities and at the front desk for many years. While living in Georgetown, Leone volunteered with 4-H, played piano for school programs and was a member of the garden club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and traveling, especially enjoying her trips to Oregon to see her sister.

Leone is survived by her grandchildren, Cari (Arthur) Weidner, West Fargo, ND, and Cory (Kristina) Carter, Moorhead; great-grandchildren, Audrey and Claire Weidner; niece, Mary Andreason, Springfield, OR; and nephew, Frank Patton, Eugene, OR.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Leanne Carter; sister, Doris Patton; infant grandson, Jay Carter, and infant sister.
