Karl Helfter

Karl Helfter, 45, of Fargo, ND, died Monday, February 1, 2016 in his parent's home under the care of hospice, surrounded by his family.

Karl Joseph Helfter was born December 3, 1970, the son of Mark and Hella (Dietrich) Helfter, in Fargo. He was raised in Fargo and graduated from Fargo North High School in 1992. He lived in Fargo for a many years before moving to Wahpeton, ND, in 2005. Over the years Karl worked for the Red River Human Services Foundation.

Karl was very involved in Special Olympics where he was recently active in basketball and bowling. In 1991, Karl won a Gold and Silver medal in swimming events during the International Special Olympics in Minneapolis, MN. He also enjoyed visiting his Uncle Tom's cabin at the lake. Karl loved visiting with family and friends and would always be the first to greet you a good morning at the start of a day.

He is survived by his parents, Mark and Hella; sister, Loraine Fleeman; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends and staff at Red River Human Services.
He was preceded in death by his brother, David; grandparents, Joe and Loraine Helfter, and Fritz and Herta Dietrich; uncles, Peter Dietrich and Horst Albicker; and cousins, Barbara Dietrich, Susanne Albicker, and Jill Stapleton.

A Visitation for Karl will be Thursday from 5 PM until 7 PM, with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, 409 8th St. S., Moorhead, MN.

His Funeral Service will be Friday, February 5, 2016, at 2 PM, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 710 10th St S., Fargo.

Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery North, Fargo.
