Gloria Fischer Milligan

June 15, 1943 — January 4, 2015

On January 4, 2015, with family by her side, our Grandma, Gloria Kay Fischer Milligan, passed away peacefully. Our Grandma Gloria was just seventy-one when she lost her battle with cancer and was reunited with family and friends in heaven.

Grandma was the kind of woman that we all aspire to be. She was strong, funny, caring and would lend a hand to anyone in need. She spent her life giving to her children and grandchildren and in her spare time she even gave to the casinos. She enjoyed playing 31 with her family. She swore there was no cheating involved. For many years she worked for the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District as a paraprofessional where she touched the hearts of many. This is a fond memory for many of us that went to school there as we always had Grandma close by.

We cannot forget to mention Grandma's cooking. It's as if she bottled up all of her love in each and every meal she made. She worked at the American Legion as a cook for several years. Many had the opportunity to have her famous soup, and her recipes still live on. Grandma was also known for her potato salad and people would often ask her to cater for their events. Grandma will also be remembered by her friends at The Perley Place where she spent several years serving and making bets on Twins games with her friends.

Grandma spread her love throughout her lifespan. She was born to Al and Jesse (Miller) Gray on June 15, 1943, at home in Barnes County, ND. She graduated from high school in Barnesville, MN. On March 10, 1962, Grandma married the love of her life, Darwin Fischer. They made their home in Glyndon, MN, and had five children. Grandpa Darwin passed away on June 4, 1979. On May 6, 2014, Grandma married Ron Milligan, and they made their home in Perley, MN.

Grandma is survived by her husband, Ron; her children, Michelle (Kent) Brekke, and Mitchell (Holly) Fischer all of Fargo, ND, Melinda (Mike) Thompson, Moorhead, MN, Michael (Jackie) Fischer, and Mathew (Susan) Fischer all of Glyndon; her sisters, Sandy (Lowell) Nelson, Moorhead, Harriet (Donnie ) Fischer, Glyndon, Renee (Al) Aamodt, Horace, ND; brother, Donnie (Margaret) Gray, Downer, MN; sister-in-law, Carol (Paul) Quinnild, Barnesville; brother-in-law, Dale Champ, Elbow Lake, MN; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren (and 2 more on the way); and many nieces and nephews.

Not only was she a Mother to her own children, her door was always open to the neighborhood as she was a mother to all.

Preceding Grandma in death were our Grandpa Darwin; her parents, Al and Jesse; her brothers, Ronnie and Fred; her sisters, Joy Champ and Nora Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Dick Anderson. Grandma was also preceded by her special friend, Gaylon Aronson.
