Ella Harmon

May 16, 1918 — January 7, 2015

.Ella (Unruh) Harmon passed away peacefully at Villa Maria, Fargo, ND, on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

Ella was born May 16, 1918, to Daniel and Minnie (Martin) Unruh, in Goodrich, ND, and attended school there. She graduated from Goodrich High School in 1936. After high school she worked at Perman's Restaurant. It was during this time that she was honored and crowned as "Sugar Queen." She received a beautiful wrist watch as a gift.

For the next seven years Ella worked in the County Courthouse in McClusky, ND. She moved to Casselton, ND, and worked at First State Bank. During that time, Leon was discharged from the Navy and they met. What a handsome young man! One day he brought her a dozen red roses to the bank where she worked. He stole her heart! Leon and Ella were married in June 1946, in Casselton. Bruce was born in 1947, Brian in 1953, and Brad in 1955.

After the boys were all in school, Ella worked for the hot lunch program in Casselton, until they moved to Fargo. In Fargo, Ella worked in the elementary school hot lunch program and NDSU food service.

The word "Love" comes to mind when describing Ella. She loved watching basketball games, especially the Bison, Texas Longhorns, and several NBA teams. She loved the love of her life, "Leon." She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and made every effort to visit them as often as possible in person or on the phone. She loved her brothers and sisters. She loved her many friends and was grandma to many kids who were not related to her. She loved her church family. In the past three months she had a special love for the caring staff at Villa Maria. Her greatest love was Jesus and she is now in heaven praising him.

Ella is survived by three sons , Bruce (Jan) Harmon, Moorhead MN, Brian (Bonnie) Harmon, Berea, OH, and Brad (Lori) Harmon, Moscow, ID; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Nicholas (Barbara), Anthony, Samuel, Peter, Susanna, Benjamin (Corinne), and Bethany (Justin) Kuska; four great grandchildren, Ezra, Aria, Cayden and Kaiya; sister, Helen (Kenny) Johnson; brother, Harold (Lila) Unruh; and brothers-in-law Orville Erickson and Gene Perry.
