Edward "Mush" Rishel

Edward "Mush" H. Rishel was born March 26, 1931, in Dilworth, MN, to James and Elizabeth (Meyer) Rishel. He was raised in Dilworth where he graduated from high school in 1949.

Ed was united in marriage to Romayne Costello on June 12, 1950, in Dilworth, where they continued to make their home. Ed worked for Northern States Power for 30 years as foreman in the gas department. He also worked as the assessor for the City of Dilworth for over twenty years.

Mush was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was very active in sports all of his life, including football, baseball, softball, and golf. Not only did he enjoy watching his grandchildren participate in sports, he coached and was an umpire for a number of years.

Ed passed away in his home, of natural causes, on January 14, 2017, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

He leaves behind his wife Romayne; his children, Stephanie (Larry) Gertz, Big Fork, MT, Mary (Butch) Ihland, Kent, MN, Ron (Gerri) Rishel, Lakeville, MN, and Missy (Chad) Koel, Pillager, MN; grandchildren, Ricci and Mason (Jolene) Gertz, Sarah, John, Catie Kautz (Paul), and Libby (John) Schauer, Charlie (Danielle) and Meggi Ihland, Zach (Megan) and Jake (Samantha) Rishel, Ethan, Ben and Abby Koel; and five great-grandchildren, Emily, Tom, Corbin, Mason, and Kason.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Kautz.

To those who were his friends, there was no one more loyal. His life motto was "I did it my way," and he did.

Visitation will be Monday, January 16, 2017, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth. The memorial mass will be Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 11 AM, in the church.
