Ardell J. Helgeson, 82, of Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, June 10, 2017, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND.
Ardell was born December 15, 1934 to Halvor and Ethel Helgeson in Colfax, ND. On December 18, 1954, he married June Bjorke in Abercrombie, ND, and they made their home in Moorhead.
Ardell worked at Swift & Co. in Fargo, from 1954-1969. He was the owner of Farmer's Home Grocery in Moorhead, from 1969-1976. Ardell owned and operated Helgeson Locker Plant and Meat Market from 1976 to 2000. After "retirement", he worked at Salad Makers in Moorhead.
Ardell loved people. He was known for his love and devotion to his family, his customers and his many friends. Ardell enjoyed few things more than visiting over a cup of coffee with a handful of June's homemade cookies. Most days ended with a big bowl of ice cream.
He enjoyed fishing, especially excursions to Lake of the Woods, reading, and piloting the "Junebug" (their pontoon) at the lake. Ardell was a member of the Sons of Norway, Elks, and Eagles. He was also a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead since 1956.
Ardell is survived by his wife of 62 years, June; children, Joan (Rod) Engeseth, Moorhead, Sue Johnson, Edina, MN, and Dave (Jody) Helgeson, St. Croix Falls, WI; grandchildren, Ben (Christi) Fagerlie, Duluth, MN, Amy (Jeff) Cross, Alexandria, MN, Brianna Engeseth, Moorhead, Katie (Chris) Rivard, Little Canada, MN, Cassie (Travis) Reutzel, Howard Lake, MN, Nicole Helgeson, St. Croix Falls, WI, and Natalie Helgeson, Moorhead; great-grandchildren, Brynn, Erin and Josiah Cross, Isabelle and Stella Rivard, and Ryder Reutzel; siblings, Sylvia (Clarence) Newgren, St. Paul, MN, Orvin (Kathy) Helgeson, Fargo, ND, Debbie (Mike) Stacey, Clear Lake, MN, and Rick (Vernice) Helgeson, Fargo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Herman Helgeson.
Memorials may be directed to Our Savior's Lutheran Church 70th Anniversary Fund.
A Visitation for Ardell will be one hour prior to his funeral service.
His Funeral Service will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
