Alton Kemmer

Alton W. Kemmer, 90, of Dilworth, MN, died Monday, August 11, 2014, in Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo, ND.
Alton William Kemmer was born September 26, 1923, the son of William and Mary M. (Henschel) Kemmer, in Alice, ND. He was raised there and attended country school. He was drafted into the service, but returned home to help his father on the family farm. He continued to farm in Alice, Clarrisa, MN, and then in the Fergus Falls, MN area.
On February 9, 1952, he was united in marriage to Lorraine M. Schieffer in Browerville, MN. They made their home on the farm near Fergus Falls until 1965, when they moved to Dilworth. He then worked at Atlas Products until 1969, when he went to work for Steiger Tractor in Fargo. He retired from Steiger in 1986. After his retirement, he began working on the Harlan Wentz farm near Hitterdal, MN, until 2006.
Alton enjoyed fishing on Lake Lizzie, wood working, collecting toy tractors, and will always be known as a great story teller. His greatest joy was spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorraine; children, Peggy (Dr. Thom) Horowitz, Los Angeles, CA, Pat (Cheryl) Kemmer, Glyndon, MN, Leland "Babe" (Patricia) Kemmer, James (Beth) Kemmer and Debbie (Dale) Kemmer, all Fargo; daughter-in-law, Jill Kemmer, Moorhead; grandchildren, Freddie and Anne Horowitz, Brady and Logan Kemmer, Joshua, Joey, and Jaimie Kemmer, and Austin and Maddisyn Kemmer; great-grandchildren, Nicole and Anna Jones, and Gavin Smith; and a sister, Lila Horhman, San Marcos, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry; sister, Louise Mcglothlin; granddaughter, Mandy Kemmer; and an infant great-grandson.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Sanford Emergency Room and Palliative Care staffs for their wonderful care. Memorials may be directed to Sanford Palliative Care.
A gathering of friends for Alton will be one hour prior to the memorial service.
His memorial service will be Friday, August 15, 2014, at 1:00 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
