Enge, 81, Fargo, ND, passed away early Sunday morning, November 9, 2008, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, from a long battle of complications following prostate cancer. Donald J. Enge was born February 21, 1927, in Warren, MN, to Peter and Pearl (Barlow) Enge. Donald grew up and graduated from public school in the Big Woods Township of Marshall County, MN. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in January 1945 and served on two Navy ships in the Pacific region. He was discharged from the service in December, 1947. In 1950, Don moved to Ontario, CA, and worked for Northrop Aircraft. He returned to Minnesota in 1952. On September 26, 1953, he married Theresa M. Landreville in Stephen, MN. They moved to Fargo, and Don worked for Cook Sign Company in Fargo from 1953 to 1959. They moved to Jamestown, ND, in 1959, where Don was the first hired employee for Newman Signs. He was a commercial artist and painter. Don retired from Newman Signs in April, 1992. After retirement, Don continued to utilize his talent as a commercial artist. He lettered many trucks for Mayer and Wiest truck lines in Jamestown. Don was an active member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Knights of Columbus, and the Sons of Norway. He donated his time and talents to all of these organizations over the years. Some of these donations include the Vikings painting to the Jamestown Sons of Norway, a war scene mural to the Jamestown American Legion, which is now the Vets Club. He also was the artist who painted the nursery-rhyme mural at the old Park Plaza Shopping Center in Jamestown in the early 1960s. This mural was recently discovered behind a wall of sheet rock at the now, County Market, in Jamestown. Don and Theresa moved to West Fargo, ND in June, 2001 and had recently moved into the Bethany Homes facility in Fargo. Donald received excellent care and attention from the staff at Bethany, where he also won the hearts of others with his humor and artistic talent.
